Rambo Memorial Health to Host Asthma Camp for Kids
ZANESVILLE, OH – Rambo Memorial Health is gearing up to host their annual Asthma Camp.
Camp Wheeze-Away is a 2-day camp for children ages 7 to 12, and it will take place on June 25th and 26th.
Shannon Bell, the Executive Director of Rambo, said the kids who attend the camp will get to do some arts and crafts, go fishing, bowling and have some water fun on the splash pad.
“Camp Wheeze-Away, it’s with Wheezer, the dog, and Wheezer is going to help kids learn to participate in activities, even though they might have a diagnosis of asthma,” Bell said. “Our camp is designed to keep kids busy with indoor and outdoor activities, even though they do have asthma. Sometimes there’s a stigma, that if I have asthma, I can’t participate in certain things and that’s just so untrue. As long as your asthma is controlled, you can participate in all activities. ”
Bell said if your child wants to bring a buddy to camp then they are more than welcome.
She said this gives a child’s friend the opportunity not only to have fun with a friend but also acts as an educational opportunity.
“Our camp is designed for our kids who have asthma, they get to bring a friend with them, ” Bell said. “There are various reasons for this; one, you don’t want to be by yourself, so it’s best to have a buddy with you. But then their buddy also gets to learn about what they go through, what they experience with asthma and potentially when to help call for help, if they are having an asthma attack.”
If you are interested in signing your child up for Camp Wheeze-Away you can head to Rambo’s website to register or give them a call at 740-452-5401.
