Rhino Born At Wilds

It’s a big week at the Wilds Animal Preserve in Muskingum County. A male southern white rhino was born there Wednesday, November 12. It is the first 5th generation white rhino born on record outside of Africa. Wilds President and CEO Tom Staff says the birth of 4th and now 5th generation white rhinos in human care is a remarkable achievement. He attributes this success to their expansive habitats and large herds that allow for natural social behavior, as well as specialized care they receive from a dedicated team. Visitors participating in the Winter on the Wilds programs may get an opportunity to see the calf before next spring. Tours are held at 11 am and 2 pm November through March.
