Big turkey donation for Christ’s Table

Two local funeral homes have joined together to give a donation to Christ’s Table.

Both Burrell Funeral Service and Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home filled a truck with 15 turkeys a piece Monday. These turkeys will go to help supply Christ’s Table’s Thanksgiving Day meals.

Keely Warden, the Executive Director of Christ’s Table said these 30 turkeys bring Christ’s Table’s total up to 70 turkeys. Co-owner of Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, Ty Dierkes said donating the turkeys is an extension of other things they do.

"We serve many many families throughout the years and we just feel we want to give back to our community, and our community hurts because they need these turkeys for food, and they’re so many that just have a great need," Dierkes said.

This is the second year that Dierkes has donated turkeys to Christ’s Table and this year asked his friend Robert Burrell, who owns Burrell Funeral Service to join in the donation. Burrell jumped at the opportunity to help.

"It makes me and my staff feel wonderful that we’re able to do something to help and also to help with another funeral home in the area to give back to the community because we know some people are not as fortunate as we are," Burrell said.

Warden said it is great to have such large community support especially from two competing businesses who partnered up to help the community meet its needs.
