Keeping Your Pet Safe This Winter

The winter months are upon us and while you may think staying warm is a difficult task, it’s even harder for your pet.

Jody Murray, executive director of the Animal Shelter Society, took some time to share with pet owners changes they need to make to their fury friends routines in the cold weather.

"The first thing is, when it’s as cold as it’s been the last couple of days, limit the time outside, just like yourself you have to take the time to get used to that. If you have a coat bundle them up, so they can spend enough time outside and get some exercise. "

Aside from limiting your pets time outside, it’s also important to make sure they have more food and water. In the cold your pet is burning more calories, and need the extra energy.

"You prepare your car for the winter time, you prepare your house, you want to make sure that you prepare your pet as well," said Murray.

Remember to take extra care of your fury friend this season, and if you’re looking for a lovable companion the animal shelter is holding a special event for cats Saturday, November 22nd, more information about that event will be available on Thursday, November 20th.
