Port Authority Meeting

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority board had its monthly meeting Wednesday.

Each month the Port Authority discusses its finances. Right now Port Authority is looking at several different land sales that will bring the general fund up to nearly $850,000 at the end of the year.

"Right now we’ve been pretty fortunate. We’ve had some land sales out at Eastpoint. We think we’re going to close on some land sales at Northpoint before the end of the year," Executive Director of Port Authority, Mike Jacoby said. "If that takes place we should end the year with over $800,000 in the general fund which is a nice change because we’ve had years where we weren’t sure if we were going to be in the positive at the end of the year."

Even if the land sales do not go through Jacoby said things will still be fine financially. With the extra funds this year Jacoby said they are looking into improving development parks and other sites around the county.

"We talked about new parks, improving some of the sites we’ve got," Jacoby said. "We’ve talked about preparing a site for speculative building. No decisions yet, but we at least have resources to look at some of those opportunities, which is a big first step."

He added that he is very hopeful that the land sales will go through.
