Health Department Employee Retires after 29 Years

An employee of the Zanesville-Muskingum County health department is retiring after 29 years.

Environmental Health Director, Mike Kirsch is retiring from the Zanesville Muskingum County health department after 29 years of service. Kirsch says a lot has changed since he first started working for the health department.

"Technology is one thing, just amazing advancements in technology. When I started, we didn’t have any computers, no cell phones, nothing like that. So, that’s all new and just on how you do things, and expectations, there’s more to be expected of local government and the work at that time when I started. So, just as anything else, it’s an evolution."

Kirsch says he started this career because of his love for the outdoors and being with people, which is how he would describe his typical day.

"Just meeting with a lot of individuals, working with people, trying to educate them on how they can do things better and just working with staff and trying to build a team and working with a team, its great."

When asked about retirement plans, Kirsch says he looks forward to vacationing and enjoying his time off.
