Avondale Youth Center Holds Olde Fashioned Christmas Celebration
The Avondale Youth Center gave the community some Christmas cheer Saturday evening.
For the sixth year now, the Olde Fashioned Christmas Celebration was held at the center. There were a few different purposes for the event. The first was to kick off the Christmas Fund Campaign. Solomon Curtis, Team Leader for the Avondale Youth Center told us about the second purpose.
"This is an event where our director, Nate Norris, 6 years ago said, ‘Hey we really need to do something for the community.’ We have the community’s support, they’re always willing to help donate things, to help raise money for us so we said, ‘Lets give back to the community.”"
Horse drawn carriage rides, face painting, cookies, hot chocolate, crafts and live music were enjoyed by parents and their children. Santa and Mrs. Claus also made an appearance. The event. The Zanesville Kiwanis Club collaborated in the event for the first time ever this year. Bridget Tetak, Member of the club told us they would be looking forward to collaborations in the future.
"I think this is a project that our club will embrace for many many years to come. I know it holds really near and dear to several of our hearts in many different ways and myself and another member of our Kiwanis Club was asked to be on the board to help support this event and we’ve been really excited to help them with that."
The Youth Center was expecting 100 to 300 people to attend Saturday evenings event.
