Small Business Saturday
The Zanesville Downtown Association is helping out the small businesses in town.
Following black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year, is small business Saturday, celebrated annually on the Saturday after Thanksgivng. Dana Matz, Membership Director of the Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce said, Small business Saturday was started by American Express several years ago to remind shoppers to shop small during the holiday season.
"We apply it as the Zanesville Downtown Association for, to be a participant, and so all of our downtown retailers will be participating this week. So, shoppers coming to the downtown area, not only can they get bargains, but there are also gift bags that are provided and stickers and pens. The businesses will have balloons out indicating that they’re part of small business Saturday."
Shopping small helps local business in your neighborhood, and also helps shoppers save some cash.
"Black Friday is known predominately for the bigger retailers and then small business Saturday is for the smaller retailers and the advantage of supporting your smaller retailers are many of them live right here in our community and so you’re gonna see them when you go to the events and you know, sporting events at local schools or hear a choir perform, and they give back, as do the large businesses, but it’s nice to support the small vendors who work hard 365 days a year to stay afloat."
