Local community leaders hand out shoes to more than one thousand area kids.

The 28th Annual ‘Lace up for Kids event provides students new s shoes for the upcoming school year. Eastside Community Ministry Board Member Sally Goins said 1,094 children left the Zanesville Civic League with a new pair of shoes for school.

“We do a new pair of school shoes for any child that is registered for it,” said Goins. “The overall goal is to make sure that each child starts school on the right foot with a new pair of shoes.”

Goins said this event was a joint effort combined by leaders from Eastside Community Ministry along with Wendy’s and WHIZ.

“What it means for us is that we get the opportunity to see the faces of all the children that we are able to help. We get the opportunity to work as partners with WHIZ, Wendy’s, many different community groups and we feel like it brings the community together to aid kids and that’s terrific,” said Goins.

Goins said once this event wraps up, they will then begin planning for next year immediately.
