Toast to the New Year

If you’re planning on toasting to the New Year, don’t forget to pick up a bottle of champagne.

It has been said that champagne is the classic New Years Eve beverage, but when it comes to purchasing a bottle of bubbly, there are some recommendations you should consider. This morning we spoke with Mike Alfman, the owner of Winerak Market, about different New Years Eve champagne and sparkling wine options.

"People come in and they ask for a bottle of champagne, but what I always ask them is ‘do you really enjoy champagne?’ which is a dry, sparkling wine. The alternative to that would be an austy, which is a sweeter sparkling wine. So, when you’re having your cheer for the New Year and you want to have your toast, we just want to make sure that you have something that you really enjoy."

Champagne isn’t the only item being bought off the shelves, Alfman says there have been many other favorites during this holiday season.

"A lot of folks are coming in and buying the fireball cinnamon schnapps, its been very popular. We also have a lot of flavored vodka’s that they’re making drinks out of, things like that. Bourbons are also very hot right now and scotch, but I would just say when your new years comes, just make sure you have something you want to celebrate with."

Alfman would like to remind everyone to have a very safe, yet happy New Year.
