Muskingum Hosts Annual 7-on-7 Football Tournament
NEW CONCORD, OH
There’s only so much football to be played during the summer, but the 7-on-7 events and tournaments continue to roll around, this time at Muskingum University, with plenty of local area schools involved.
At the Muskingum campus, the Muskies hosted six local area schools to participate in this 7-on-7 tournament, with all teams facing one another. These schools included the likes of John Glenn, Maysville, Philo, and Buckeye Trail, who competed across a span of three hours and two fields on a hot, sunny day out in New Concord. While the players continue to get back into football shape with the repetitions and practices coming with it, coaches just want to make sure that all their athletes are having fun.
Muskingum assistant coach Casey Huhn said “It’s a little competition that the local schools, you know, coming out here, doing a little 7-on-7 action, you know, playing against guys that they’ll be seeing. And for us to be able to kind of evaluate some younger guys, some upcoming seniors as well. Have fun, that’s the biggest thing is, you know, guys have been sitting at home. They just started out camp and their summer camps and trying to get back into football shape and just playing. Main thing for us is just make sure they’re having fun.”
“Well, 7-on-7, you know, is a first experience in competition. We want to see who can compete. It’s not win or lose. It’s we’re going to get experience” added Maysville head coach Craig Clarke. “And obviously we need to adapt to the heat, get in condition using that to make ourselves better when it finally gets here in August.”
