Rally in the Alley Helps the Fight Against Breast Cancer

Zanesville, OH- A woman battling breast cancer is raising awareness and funds to help others in their fight, with an event called Rally in the Alley.

The event takes place on Saturday, August 10th at the Downtown Exchange at 11:30am. Andrea Bowman, the owner of Gypsy Pizza and organizer of the event, wants people to learn from her experience.

“I was diagnosed at the beginning of April with triple negative breast cancer and this is just a way for me to, one, give back to the Genesis Foundation Women’s Boutique, who’s helped me out and to also raise a little bit of awareness. I’m kind of hoping that younger women decide to screened for cancer and not brush it off because they’re busy of or they’re tired or it’s expensive. Go get checked it can be any one at any time,” said Andrea Bowman, the owner of Gypsy Pizza and the event organizer.

Bowman was only 37 when she received her diagnoses. 3 years younger than when regular screenings are recommended. She also wants this event to help the Genesis Foundation Women’s Boutique the same way it helped her.

“It helps women with different prosthetics or post surgical things that might not be covered by insurance. And basically, you go in, they asses what you need, they see if your insurance happens to cover what you need and if you don’t they say, ‘don’t worry, we have funds for that.’ And I kind of wanted to keep those funds still available for people and it really is for people in this community so that money that we’re raising stays right here,” Bowman said.

The free event features children’s activities, a Jeep cruise-in, live music, and raffle giveaways. You can learn more by visiting the Downtown Exchange’s website.
