City Tire Pros’ Players of the Week: Week 1

After a great first week of high school football it’s only right to start the week of with last week’s City Tire Pros’ Players of the Game. These players were chosen by the announcers at the games.

On Z92 with the Philo Electrics home opener against Athens, Talon Preston is one of Philo’s best returning players from last season. He showed why putting up 112 yards on the ground and punching one touchdown in the end zone for the first score of the game. It wasn’t enough to put the Electrics over the hump as they fell to Athens 28-14.

Over on Highway 103 Carter Winland was a huge part of West Muskingum’s 42-0 win over Lakewood. The running back had 162 yards on the grounds and scored three touchdowns. He continued his campaign for linebacker of the year with 6 tackles on the defensive side.

AM1240 had the Zanesville Blue Devils in TJ Carper’s head coaching debut. It was the special teams getting love with Cam Van Kirk kicking 7 punts for a 49 yard average. One punt went for 68 yards. It was Johnstown-Monroe who took the victory 38-0.

The Community Bank Game of the Week player of the game was Sheridan senior running back Luke Link. Link had a touchdown to go along with 44 yards on 6 carries. The Generals fell to Licking Valley 30-7.

On Z92 the Sheridan General look to bounce back in a home game with Watkins Memorial.

Highway 103 is an early MVL match-up with the Philo Electrics traveling to New Lexington to take on the 1-0 Panthers.

The Community Bank TV Game of the Week is West Muskingum as they hit the road to take on Licking Valley. The game will air Saturday morning on Fox 5 at 7:30am.
