United Way Offering Tax Assistance

Tax season is upon us and the United Way is reaching out to the community to assist them in filing returns.

The organization has been helping area residents with their taxes for about 8 years now. We spoke to Debbie Lovensheimer, Clinic Supervisor who gave us an overview of some of the ways they can help.

“Well we can do their entire tax return for them. Federal and state. We e-file both of them. If they want their refunds directly deposited into the bank accounts we can do that too or they can have a check mailed to them if they get a refund.”

You will need to bring your W2’s or any 1099 you receive. Banking information is also needed and your social security number. Lovensheimer told us a about who is eligible to take part in the free assistance.

“Single individuals who make less than $65,000. Married couples who make less than $95,000. There are some returns we cannot do. Our software just wont accommodate those. So if a person owns their own business or they have rental properties or if they have farm income or capital gains. We cannot do those. But we can do all of the other ones.”

Appointments are filling up fast so you are encouraged to call and schedule a time as soon as possible. There are a number of different time slots available. The tax assistance will be going on next Monday through march. The number to learn more or make that appointment is: (740)454-6874
