New Concord Community Day success

Community Day

NEW CONCORD, OH- To celebrate and strengthen the bond between the Village of New Concord and the Muskingum University campus, the Friends of New Concord hosted their second annual Community Day.

The day began with a Vendors’ Village featuring local artisans. Families could enjoy activities, including a coloring contest, a dunk tank, a petting zoo, storytelling, axe throwing, rock climbing, and yard games.

“It started last year with a group that was newly formed last year, Friends of New Concord, and we were having conversations about strengthening the relationship between the Village of New Concord and Muskingum University, and how can we find ways for students and faculty and residents to come together in nice ways,” said New Concord Mayor, Jennifer Lyle.

Chick-fil-A also made a special appearance during the event drawing in a large crowd,

“We started with the notion that we really need some help, some volunteers, and our Greek Life community really stepped up, we have a number of Greek organizations doing all kinds of things from the kids activities to the adult activities to being just a force to help move people around, and that’s really good for our students to see the community to be involved in our community because they are residents during their four years here and we want them to feel that and feel that connection, that’s a part of their education,” said Muskingum University Biology Professor, Jim Dooley.

The day concluded at 10 p.m. with a ‘Party in the Park’. For more information on today’s event visit the Friends of New Concord website.
