Annual Alzheimer’s Walk Scheduled for the 14th
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Alzheimer’s is a brain disease that affects many Ohio seniors and a local event is being planned to help bring awareness.
The Central Ohio Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will be hosting a fundraiser walk at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, September 14th, at Zane State College. Walk Manager Alicia Billman shared what attendees can expect and how they can participate.
“We have some festivities and a ceremony that go on for about an hour. Any team who has registered or participant who is registered gathers during that time, spends the time to grab a flower that holds the meaning of whatever reason that they’re there to support. After the ceremony we kick it off with the walk itself. It’s led by the Zanesville ROTC Cadets. They will take us on a mile loop around Zane State College,” Billman said.
The Alzheimer’s walk has become an annual event here in Muskingum County with support from organizations such as The Oaks at Northpointe and the Oaks at Bethesda, who have raised more than $8,000 dollars for the cause this year.
“What that means for our local community here in Zanesville, is that these funds get to come back into the community for our caregiver support groups, our educations that happen in many different facilities and residences here in the area as well. So that money gets folded back into the community and that’s why this event is so important for folks to attend,” Billman said.
Registration for sponsorship or participation for this year’s Alzheimer’s Walk can be accomplished online at act.alz.org, by emailing Billman at abillman@alz.org or on location prior to the event located at 1555 Newark Road, Zanesville.
