Rambo Offering Free Flu Shots

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – September marks the time of year when respiratory illnesses begin to rise.

Rambo Memorial Health Center has already begun administering free flu shots for Muskingum County residents and will be extending operating hours to better accommodate all who are interested in getting their vaccination.

“During the month of October, Rambo has extended hours. The first Saturday, we are open from 9 to 1 and then every Tuesday and Wednesday, in the month of October we stay open ‘til 6 o’clock to accommodate those folks who can’t get in here by 4:30. So come in, it’s an easy process, we’ll get you in and out of the door in less than 5 minutes and you’re protected this flu season,” Rambo Memorial Health Center Executive Director Shannon Bell said.

This year’s vaccine is a tri-valent version that covers multiple strains of the virus and is being offered in high dose for seniors and those who are immunocompromised as well as a regular dose for the general public.

“Most people think, ‘oh well, I got a flu shot before and I still got the flu.’ A flu shot does not keep you from getting the flu. I’ll just say that,” Bell said. “It does however decrease your symptoms if you do get the flu. And it also helps you to protect the elderly population and the small babies. Besides covering your cough and washing your hands, the best thing you can do is get a flu vaccine.”

Rambo Memorial Health Center specializes in many forms of respiratory care and is located at 711 Main Street in Zanesville.
