ODOT Announces Interstate 70 Construction Changes

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Transportation announced upcoming repairs to Interstate 70 through downtown Zanesville that will impact traffic.
ODOT District 5 Public Information Officer Chas Cosgrave explained how traffic will be rerouted and the downtown exits will be closed during the evening and overnight hours.
“We want to make everyone aware that beginning this coming Monday, September 23rd, there will be some traffic pattern changes coming on our I-70 project for these pavement repairs. The repairs are expected to take 4 or 5 nights and they’re going to go from 5:30 at night until 6 a.m. each day. The 93 and U.S. 40 ramps will remain open during that time. Once the repairs are complete, the Eastbound express lane will close for about 36 hours for additional pavement repair,” Cosgrave said.
Once all of the concrete barriers are rearranged to redirect traffic, around 7 p.m. I-70 traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction and the Westbound ramps to the downtown will be closed for the night.
“We are maintaining one lane in each direction, that way, we can continue the flow of traffic through there. Obviously with it restricted, it may slow a bit. So we just encourage folks to be aware of the change in traffic conditions and plan ahead. Plan for additional time to get to your destination,” Cosgrave said.
The entire I-70 project through downtown Zanesville is not only a necessary step in maintaining the many bridges but also modernizing the route’s infrastructure to provide an updated platform that will improve safety and convenience for years to come.
