MCCF Holds Annual Groundhog Day Celebration
The Muskingum County Community Foundation held their annual Groundhog Day Celebration Friday.
It was held at the Zane State, Ohio University Zanesville Campus Center in celebration of the foundation’s 30th anniversary and to help get the community through the dead of winter. We spoke to CEO Brian Wagner who explains who all the event benefits.
"The money that’s raised goes toward our spring grant competition. So the dollars that come in are going right back out into the community to support various different organizations and groups."
The estimated 350 to 400 people had the chance to enjoy a hot meal, silent and live auctions, and socializing with other muskingum county residents. Wagner spoke of the importance of events like this within the community.
"It’s a great opportunity for people to come together, socialize, spend some time together, kind of chat in an informal way. Then also theres a lot of great local art thats avaiable. A lot of great ways to support local businesses too through the silent and the live auction. It’s just a great opportunity to celebrate Muskingum County in the dead of winter when theirs nothing else to do."
Awards were also given out Friday. The Community Leadership Award went to Bethany Hayes, and Mark Moyer was given the Dick Johnson Civic Leadership Award.
