Ways to keep your car fit for winter weather
Inspecting your vehicle on a regular basis is important all year around but maybe even more so as ice and snow blankets roads.
Wearing and under inflated tires can cause major problems when hitting the road. And as it stays cold some people may not check their tires as much as necessary. Jessica Berry at Clever Towing says you should check your tires once a month.
“In the winter time you want to pay extra attention to your tires and make sure the tread depth is good because you’re going to be driving on roads that are icy and snowy,” Berry said. “So you always want to make sure that you have good tread for traction.”
When checking to see if your tread is tough enough for snowy roads, the old penny trick can do you a lot of good.
“One way to check your tread depth would be to stick a penny in your tread and make sure it measures up to the head of Abraham Lincoln on there, and that can be a good indicator of your tread and if it’s good,” Berry said.
Berry added that preparation is key. Make sure to check the pressure in your tires regularly and then have an emergency kit ready in your car in case you run into trouble on the road.
