UPDATE: Car Chase Results in Crash on 146

A driver running from authorities flipped his car earlier Tuesday evening in front of Zane State College.

The incident happened around 6:08 p.m. as an officer from the Zanesville Police Deparmtent attempted to pull over a driver with expired plates. Police said they had been watching the vehicle and attempted to pull it over as it left a residence. The driver did not comply with officers and began to flee out of town toward Dillon State Park on State Route 146.

Sgt. Jon McCoy with ZPD said, "Once they got up here around the colleges, the individual attempted to pass traffic on the left hand side, grazed a vehicle coming out of the intersection of the colleges, and turned over into the ditch."

Authorities did find drugs as well as guns inside the vehicle. The driver was transported to the Zanesville City Jail, and the passenger was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital’s emergency room. As to the cause of the crash, police have reason to believe the driver was under the influence.

"Drugs are considered to be a factor along with other items," McCoy said.

The Zanesville Police Department, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Muskingum County Sheriffs Office, Genesis Community Ambulance, and the Zanesville Fire Department all responded to the scene. The Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash, and we’ll provide you with further details as they become available.
