Fines Forgiven on Friday the 13th

The Muskingum County Library System wants to give you a chance to clear your record.

As a way of making Friday the 13th lucky, the library system is giving you the chance to clear one fine off of your card. It also is a chance for the library to recover materials that may have been misplaced by customers due to the winter weather, holidays or school closings.

“It’s very important we be good stewards of the taxpayers money because ultimately the public purchased all those materials and some materials it’s difficult to replace,” said Assistant Director Blair Tom.

Tom said it appears that audio materials are more likely to cause fines for library goers over print materials. Even if you’ve already returned the late material you can still take advantage of the program.

“Sometimes they’ve returned the material but they’ve not been in or had the opportunity to take care of the fine, so if that’s the case they’re welcome to come in and take care of that as well,” said Tom.

The fine free day is taking place at all library branches. It does not apply to materials that have been lost or damaged.
