Community Businesses Team Up to Provide Free Mammogram Screenings

ZANESVILLE, OH – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and our community is making it easier than ever for women to get the care they need.

Genesis Healthcare System has once again teamed up with Coconis Furniture and other local businesses to offer free mammogram screenings. These screenings are for women who don’t have insurance, are underinsured, or just can’t afford to get a screening done.

“Last year, we were able to give out 104 vouchers and have 73 people complete a mammogram. We are super excited to start this year off and try to beat that. So far, we’ve already given out 44 certificates. We’re hopeful that we’re on track for that. We’ve partnered with Coconis, WHIZ and a lot of other local businesses so that anyone who needs a mammogram can have one regardless of if you have insurance or not,” Director of Cancer Services Pebbles Kieber said.

These screening are crucial for the early detection of breast cancer and can save lives. The vouchers for free mammograms are available at Coconis Furniture or at the Genesis Cancer Care Center.

“It’s so important. Look at how many people were able to get a mammogram last year who otherwise potentially couldn’t have. We know that early detection for breast cancer saves lives. If you are someone who should be having a mammogram every year, then we want to help you get that and we don’t want finances to be a barrier at all,” explained Kieber.
