Wild About Gymnastics
The snowfall couldn’t stop more than 400 gymnasts who are “Wild About Gymnastics” Saturday.
The Wild About Gymnastics Y-City Invitational kicked off today at the Muskingum Recreational Center. Gymnasts ranging in ages from 5 to 18 hit the mat to show off their skills.
“We have our second annual Y-City Gymnastics Meet. This is the first time we’ve had it here at the Muskingum Rec Center. We have 15 teams from pretty much all over Ohio. Cincinnati, we have teams from Akron, we also have a team here from West Virginia,” said Meed Director, Mallory Gardner.
Each gymnast competed in four events Saturday, vault, bars, the balance beam and floor. Two judges were stationed at each event to tally up the scores.
“It teaches more than just gymnastics,” stated Gardner. “They have to be dedicated, they’re very smart. I think all of our athletes get good grades in school. It’s just a great sport all around.”
Competition restarts Sunday morning and will continue throughout the entire day.
