ZANESVILLE, OH- The 8th Annual Operation: Bowl for Veterans took place at Sunrise Bowling Center this afternoon. The tournament brought out the community to support local veterans.

Proceeds from the event goes to the Veterans Appreciation Foundation, which funds local initiatives like the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

“It’s an event that we hold annually, on or around Veterans Day, and so it’s a 9 Pin, No Tap tournament, all are welcome over the age of 18, you don’t have to be a veteran to bowl in it, but all proceeds for to the Veteran Appreciation Foundation, so the V.A.F. is a local group they handle a lot of events here around Zanesville, they host the monthly Veterans Breakfast, as well as sponsor the honor flight which is a tremendous experience where they get to fly veterans out to D.C. to go around and experience the monuments and memorials that were built for them,” said United States Bowling Congress (U.S.B.C), Nathan Johnson.

Sponsors such as Fast Lane Car Care and Muddy Misers helped make the event a success, with $800 in prize winnings.

“This tournament is separate and what makes it unique is supporting veterans, so not only are you bowling and out here having a good time, but you’re getting so activity here in but also it’s for a great cause, so I think just the whole experience, the whole feel out here is just different than what you might experience at other tournaments,” said Johnson.
