Icy Spots Cause Problems On I-70

Icy road conditions are to blame for two separate accidents on Interstate 70 Sunday evening.

The accident occurred in the westbound lanes near the 136 mile marker. We spoke to trooper Drew Untied of the Granville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol who told us how the cars ended up on the side of the highway.

“This is actually two separate crashes. With the weather we’ve had today, the berms and especially the left lane have begun to freeze back over. Both drivers had stated that they had tried to switch lanes to that outside lane which was iced over and caused them to lose control.”

There were no injuries to report from the accident, just damaged vehicles. Untied says citations were issued for failure to control. Untied told us the State Highway Patrol suggests taking certain precautions to avoid accidents such as these.

“We recommend in conditions such as this, slow down, take your time. You dont need to travel in the fast lane. The right or center lane is usually better.”

Ohio State Highway Patrol and National Trails EMS assisted at the scene.
