Library Revamps Renewals
The Muskingum County Library System is changing limitations on renewing the loan period for borrowed books.
The system’s Assistant Director, Blair Tom, said the new rules are in place to open up the spectrum of what people can get out of the library.
“It’s something we hear frequently, that oh, I’m almost finished or I didn’t get to that book yet, life came up, life happens and we understand that,” Tom said. “So we think this is a change in our policies that will be really well received by many customers.”
Starting Monday people can now renew a borrowed book up to three times instead of the normal one. Tom said many customers have been wanting something like this.
“We know children for example, when they find a favorite story, much sometimes to their parents chagrin, they like to hear it again and again and we want to make that more feasible, more possible, so we’ve increased those renews, renewable options to three times an item as long as as another customer hasn’t placed a hold and is waiting for it.”
Tom added this is just another way to increase what people can get out of a library card.
