Zanesville Prepares for Flooding
The heavy rains are expected to melt a lot of the snow already on the ground and that could mean localized flooding in our area.
That along with a brief warm-up forced the city into action. The Zanesville waste water and street departments teamed up to clean out city drainage basins. It’s all in efforts to allow water to flow into the drains and off the streets.
“With the ice and the cold and the clogging up the basins along the road, we’re trying to get them cleared off here the best we can,” waste water superintendent, Dave Markley, said. “Then we’re expecting an inch of rain on top of this, so I think we’re in pretty good shape.”
Many crews are methodically moving through the city, ward by ward and street by street to make sure all basins are free of snow before the rain and refreeze cause problems. But if it’s causing problems in your area Markley said crews are only a call away.
“We’ll certainly keep going,” Markley said. “I mean keep trying to keep them cleared off as best we can, and hopefully the rain doesn’t hit us too hard here to prevent the flooding.”
This is an annual project that is put into high gear when snow and ice become an issue.
