ZANESVILLE, OH – This Holiday Season, WHIZ and Marquee Broadcasting are spotlighting community organizations making a difference in our area.

To help celebrate these community partnerships and organizations, every night leading up to Christmas Eve we will light our Christmas tree in their honor.

Jay Benson, WHIZ Station Manager, says this is project is something they wanted to do for many years.

“I think it’s meaningful because it’s the time, it’s the season we’re in.” Benson said. “We do reflect on people who made a difference, we do celebrate that. So it’s our way of saying Merry Christmas.”

Benson says the tree lighting comes as WHIZ begins a very busy December.

It all begins on Wednesday Dec. 4th with the Storybook Christmas Parade, then Thursday we will be broadcasting SEOSO’s Annual Christmas Concert on the radio, with the week wrapping up on Friday with the Chamber of Commerce’s Festival of Trees Auction.

Benson hopes this tree lighting serves as a way to celebrate all of Muskingum County this holiday season.

“It’s really an opportunity for us to celebrate who we are as Muskingum Countians.“ Benson said. “We do have the platforms, both the radios and T.V.’s, so we can do that. We’re in everyone’s home, we’re in everyone’s car so it does make it a little easier for us to highlight that and celebrate.”

You can catch the tree lighting celebrations all Christmas Season long during our WHIZ NBC Newscasts at 6 and 11PM.
