Muskingum County- A Nashport man has pleaded guilty to charges related to the death of his father.

The Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office said 41-year-old Michael Slaughter pleaded guilty to first-degree involuntary manslaughter and a third-degree felony charge of failure to provide for a functionally impaired person. Slaughter will be sentenced at a later date.

Authorities said on July 2, Slaughter’s father, 65-year-old Michael Slaughter Senior,  was taken to the hospital due to medical issues and passed away due to sepsis. The prosecutor’s office said,  Slaughter’s son lived with his father in a camper in Nashport and was responsible for cooking and caring for his father, who was suffering from depression. Slaughter’s father’s condition was such that he was too weak to stand up on his own. The prosecutor’s office believes his son’s failure to provide for a functionally impaired person contributed to Slaughter Senior’s death.
