March Membership Month for the Y-City Barbershop Chorus
The Y-City Barbershop Chorus is kicking off March Membership Month.
The group is looking for new members. Both Troy Ball and Paul Shannon said anyone is welcome to join. They stress it’s not a professional group. It’s just a bunch of men who enjoy singing.
“We’re always looking for new members,” Ball said. “You don’t even really have to be a professional. You don’t have to know how to read music. You just have to be a male, in our group here, that likes to sing. We work on the different parts every Monday night, and it’s just a lot of camaraderie and fellowship, and we just really have a good time.”
The group meets at 7:30 at Grace United Methodist Church every Monday. Currently it has 30 members ranging from 11 to 80 years old. Shannon said it’s open to everyone.
“It’s a lot of fun, men who enjoy singing should come out and give us a try on Monday nights,” Shannon said. “That’s the way it stands. You don’t have to be a pro you just have to be able to carry a tune and come out on Monday night.”
Ball and Shannon said the group accepts anyone who can match pitch. The group also doesn’t have a restriction on how many people can join. In the past, the group has had around 60 members.
