Starting Saturday 740 Goes to 10 Digits
If you use the 740 area code you will have to dial all 10 digits to make a local call starting Saturday. The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio says callers will have to dial the area code and seven-digit phone number to connect local calls. The change is happening because southeastern Ohio ran out of phone numbers and is getting another area code 220. Starting April 22nd, the new area code will be assigned to people requesting new service, adding another line or in some cases moving their service. If you already have a 740 area code you will keep your existing numbers. It is still 3 digits for 9-1-1 calls.
