POWER Diversion Program

People Outworking Events for Recovery started last November as a jail diversion program.

Muskingum County Common Pleas Judge, Kelly Cottrill, started the program to help people over come their addiction to drugs. However, he said the program is very intense and not an easy way out. The program is offered to those who really want to kick their addiction. Currently, there are only six participants in the "POWER COURT." According to Cottrill, the program is set up to last between 18 and 24 months. For the first 30 days, participants spend around three hours of work everyday in meetings or performing community service.

During a meeting with Muskingum County Commissioners today, Cottrill asked for $3,500 for incentives. He said that when participants reach goals or milestones, he wants to give them an incentive. But the program does not have the funds to do so. The commissioners granted the funds to the program. Cottrill said the incentives are small tokens like gift cards to go out to eat.
