UPDATE: Newborn Baby Found Dead at Muskingum University

The Muskingum County Sheriffs Office is investigating the discovery of a dead newborn baby on Muskingum University’s campus.

Captain Jeff Lecocq says the abandoned infant was discovered at 125 Lakeside Drive.

“Shortly after 9 o’clock last night our office was contacted by Muskingum University Police requesting assistance on a report of a newborn baby that had been found dead on campus. Our deputies along with New Concord Police and EMS did respond to the address.”

Lecocq went on to say that the body has been taken to the Licking County Forensic Center by the Muskingum County Coroners Office. Autopsy results have not yet been released. Lecocq said they do not have anyone in custody and this is not the first time this kind of thing has occurred on the Muskingum University Campus.

“About 12 years ago at Muskingum University, there was also an incident where a baby had been found on campus.”

In Ohio, the Safe Haven Law which states, “you can leave your baby, up to 30 days old, with an employee on duty at any hospital, emergency medical services providers or law enforcement agency in Ohio with no prosecution.”
