ZCS Appoints New Superintendent
The Zanesville City Schools Board of Education introduced its new superintendent Wednesday.
Doug Baker has been approved as the new superintendent, effective August 1. Baker comes to Zanesville from New Philadelphia, where he held the position of Assistant Superintendent of New Philadelphia City Schools.
"I always felt that the folks in Zanesville have been very professional and very engaged in the students, and so I was always intrigued by that," Baker said. "So when Zanesville posted their vacancy for superintendent I didn’t really have to hesitate to say that would be a nice place to be."
Baker said one of the first things he plans to do in his new role is listen and learn from the folks who have been here. He said he hopes to carry out goals that have already been implemented before he arrived.
"I think one of things I try to do is seek first to understand, and I think that’s the spot I’ll be in first… is to learn more about the district and where they’re at and what goals are already in place for the district, because sometimes it’s not about implementing something new, it’s to follow through with the plans are already here," he said.
Baker said he is most looking forward to seeing the students succeed.
