Correction Officers Needed at City Jail

The Zanesville Police Department is in need of correction officers to work at the city jail.

The department is currently taking applications at the Civil Service Employment Office, for both males and females. The jail is short two positions and is looking for immediate hires. Jail Administrator, Michelle Duke, said no experience is needed.

“Basically, a correction officer monitors the inmates, maintains the safety and security of the facility, passes medications…just general duties of taking care of the inmates on a daily basis,” Duke said. “If you’re just interested and want to give it a chance and give it a try, we’d love you have come down and try.”

The position is full time, with benefits, and the starting salary is $14.38 an hour. Hours vary, and applicants must be 20 1/2 years old to apply, and 21 years old at the time of hire.

“The deadline is going to be June 11 by 4 p.m. You need to stop in the Civil Service Office, and the testing will be on June 22. It will be a physical agility test and a written test on the same day,” Duke said. “One good thing to do is get on the city of Zanesville’s website, coz.org, and there’s a section on there with employment opportunities and that will direct you right to the site, it will bring you to an information booklet and that will give you more information on what you need to do to prepare.”

Again the deadline to apply is June 11 at 4-p.m. and there is a $20 non-refundable fee at the time of application.
