Scholarship Central’s First Read In Event

The Muskingum County Community Foundation invites readers of all ages to their first ever Read-In event this weekend.

Those in attendance will be able to share stories about their favorite books and how those stories have affected their lives. The foundation encourages all to come dressed as their favorite character. Event coordinator, Levi Funk, said the event is open to all ages, but hopes more teens will get involved.

“We want to keep them reading, so having a place where they can come in and talk about books and just basically having a good time talking about the books is really important,” Funk said.

Students attending should bring a book to leave and are welcome to take a book from the shelf of donated books. Funk said having a place where teens can come in and talk about reading is important to the foundation, and hopes an event like this will inspire students to keep reading outside of the classroom.

“We basically wanted to have somewhere for students or pretty much anybody who can come down here and they can take a book off of the bookshelf, put another one on there,” he said. “It’s just another place to get books because we really don’t have a whole lot of bookstores or anything around town, so we want to keep our community reading.”

The event is this Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Muskingum County Community Foundation on Putnam Avenue. Food and refreshments will be available.
