$10,000 Scholarship Available for Muskingum County Seniors and College Students
ZANESVILLE, OH –Graduation season is rapidly approaching, and with that comes the need for scholarships.
The Muskingum County Community Foundation is seeking scholarship recipients this year for the John and Susan Dorr Scholarship, which has increased from $2,000 per student to $10,000.
“We are super excited about the advancement of the John and Susan Dorr Scholarship,” MCCF Program Director Beth Fox said. “This past year, unfortunately, we lost Susan, which was a huge setback for the committee. But because of the love and support this scholarship committee has, the committee itself has decided to increase the awards to 10 thousand dollars per recipient, with an expected recipient range between 5-8 local students. That is a significant increase in not only the amount but also who’s going to be eligible to get this award.”
This year, the Dorr Committee has decided to open the scholarship to all current seniors in Muskingum County, as well as any college student from the county. The committee is looking for Muskingum County students with at least a 2.75 GPA who plan to pursue business, nursing, education, or HVAC trade school at an institution in Ohio.
“The deadline for this scholarship is unique,” Fox added. “We are closing it on John Dorr’s birthday which is March 7th, so we have a few more weeks left and I highly encourage any Muskingum County student to get your application in, $10,000 is a significant amount of money.”
The scholarship committee is focused on getting to know the individual through their application. They are looking for students who are eager to give back to Muskingum County, whether through their potential careers or in other ways.
