Victim’s Name Released in Friday’s Shooting
Zanesville Police continue to investigate the shooting death of a Columbus man.
Monday, the Zanesville Police Department released the name of the victim. Chief Kenneth Miller said William J. Young, 30, was shot late Friday at the Dairy Mart on the corner of Pine and Baker Streets.
Miler said Tequane Boxley, 23, is charged with aggravated murder with gun specifications in the killing of Young.
"Mr. Young was sitting in the passenger side of the car," Miller said. "And Boxley walked up to the side of the car and shot him in the neck."
Miller added that the two knew each other but police are uncertain to the nature and extent of that relationship. Young was pronounced dead at the hospital. Miller said there was a lot of help in making a quick arrest.
"We did make an arrest fairly quick," Miller said. "Once we identified the suspects, there was a lot of hard work by a lot of people. Our patrol officers, our detectives came in, they worked around the clock on it and then actually the citizens helped us out a lot. 4:54 "
Boxley is currently being held in the Zanesville City Jail on a $5 million bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday, July 16.
