Janice Burris

Janice Elaine “Jan” Burris of New Concord, fell into the loving arms of Jesus the evening of February 25, 2025.
Her journey was nothing short of amazing, as she told Alzheimer’s who is boss for several years and gave life all she had. She was still singing and dancing her way through life, even up until the end of her earthly song. Janice excelled in many roles, including childcare provider, gardener, beach/outdoor lover & Avon lady, but spent most of her days as administrative assistant/Athletic Secretary in the Rolling Hills school system. She retired from Mideast Career and Technology Center in Buffalo, Ohio.
She was an avid bowler, animal lover, Euchre player, and was “Mama Jan” to many. She was sure to share her wit and smile & a distinctive laugh everywhere she went! She loved and served well, including being a caregiver for several elderly before she then was the one receiving the care. Jan loved her church family, singing in the choir and serving up a meal or a donation. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cambridge, Ohio & previously attended Cumberland UMC & Main Avenue UMC.
Jan never knew a stranger and she enjoyed feeding a crowd. Jan says “catch you on the flip,” to her husband of almost 47 years, Herbert “Herb” A. Burris Jr of Beckett House, New Concord; her daughter, Rachel A. Gadd of New Concord; and her son, Adam L. “Skip” Burris of New Concord; along with her grandchildren, Cooper M. Gadd, Emma C. Gadd and Madison L. Burris. Jan is also survived by her siblings: Richard “Dick” (Marie) Wilson of Cambridge, Judy (Harold) West of Ft. Myers FL, Kenneth “Ken” (Carolyn) Wilson of Byesville, Larry (Becky) Wilson of Byesville, and Jeaneen (Wilson) Gunn of Wilmington NC.
She leaves countless extended family, friends and many, many peers and students who knew her from the school system.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Downard “Pete” V. Wilson & C. Maude Wilson; her in-laws, Herbert A. & Erna Burris; and was greeted in heaven by two babies that miscarried; along with several aunts and uncles and friends.
Visitation hours will be held to celebrate her life on Monday (March 3, 2025) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville.
Funeral services and Jan’s final celebration will be held at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, on Tuesday (March 4, 2025) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Keith Taylor officiating.
Burial will immediately follow in Rich Hill Cemetery (3640 Herron Road, Chandlersville OH).
Following the services, a meal will be hosted by our First Baptist Church family at 136 E 8th Street, Cambridge in the Fellowship Hall – all are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Hospice of your choosing, as Buckeye Hospice took such wonderful care of Jan, as did the staff at Beckett House.
