Edward Arthur Block Sr., 87 of Zanesville died at 7:18 AM Saturday, March 1, 2025 at his home under Genesis Morrison House hospice care.
He was born April 13, 1937 in Miltonsburg, Ohio the son of Clarence Arthur Block and Eleanor Oleva Wahl Block.
Ed was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He later went back to The Ohio State University and graduated with a degree in Education. Ed taught school at the Nashport Elementary School and Blacklick Elementary School for several years. After working in education he then worked as a civilian employee at the Newark Air Force Base. Ed was owner & operator of Ed’s Hobby Shop where he sold and repaired RC cars, Electric Trains & remote controlled airplanes. He also was owner & operator of Granny’s Cinnamon Rolls Concession where he traveled to many county fairs across the state of Ohio. He also owned & operated the Choo Choo Farms where he raised goats for sale. His passion was Trains and he loved Blue Grass music. He was an avid Ohio State sports fan. Ed was involved in many clubs & organizations that were associated with his many diverse businesses.
He is survived by his wife M. Sue Long Block of 62 years, whom he married June 2, 1962; his children, Edward “Ed” A. (Jackie Hall) Block Jr., Bryan D. (Mendy Daubenmire) Block, Terry L. (Jamie) Block Sr., Kathy (Michael) Irvin; Grandchildren, Caila (Jeff) Maxey, Terry Block Jr, Zoeie (Johnathon Jarvis) Hall, Zaena (Samantha Lewis) Hall, Katelyn (Wesley Stotts) Block, Abagail (William) Liston, Victoria (Kelton) Haines, Elizabeth (Bill Weissbach) Irvin, Josh Grubb, Justin (Julie) Huntsman and Jessica Huntsman; 6 Great Grandchildren, Caidence, Reilly, Marissa, Milo, Maddox & Brexton; Siblings, James (Margaret) Block and Gloria (C.A.) Edwards, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Block & George Block, and a daughter-in-law, Donna J. Block.
Visitation will be held 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church with Fr. David J. Young as celebrant. Burial will conclude at Mt. Olive Cemetery.
