A Day in the Life of a Social Worker
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The White House has officially recognized March as National Social Work Month since 1984.
Ohio University Zanesville Career Development Coordinator Summer Jacobs talked about their 3rd annual Social Worker networking fair that allows students aspiring to become social workers to connect with those already in the field.
“So we have our ‘Day In The Life Of A Social Worker’ event and our students are here plus community members to be involved in a CEU, which means a Continuing Education Unit. So that way our students know what’s in store for them in the future, once they get their degree,” Jacobs said.
The event is divided into segments that allows the students to see what opportunities are available as to internships and employment as well as listening to the employers and their social workers to better understand what they will need to focus on after employment.
“And then after that we have our discussion panel,” Jacobs said. “So our social workers from a whole plethora of different things are available. They will be answering questions from our students, you know, about what challenges that they have to go through to get to where they’re at today.”
Social work is an important aspect of society because it provides civil communication in all facets of society. Several area employers were on hand to meet with students and share the importance that their businesses provide the public through the use of social work.
