Barbara Underwood

Barbara Underwood, 89, of New Lexington Ohio passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2025.

She was born Barbara Ruth Stultz on January 1, 1936 in Chillicothe, Ohio to the late Gilbert Neil and Ruth Dailey Stultz. She attended Chillicothe High School before studying Elementary Education at The Ohio State and Ohio Universities.

Barbara was married to Ned Lewis Underwood in 1956, when they moved to New Lexington, raised their four children, and resided there until the time of her passing.

Barbara was a passionate teacher of 5th grade at New Lexington Schools where she taught for 28 years. She was an active and enthusiastic member of the New Lexington First United Methodist Church and was always a visible and highly active participant in community service and events. She was a lover of people and treasured her students and many friends. She was a fervent dog-lover and also a sports fan who enjoyed watching the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns. She enjoyed music, bird-watching, and all things nature related. One of her favorite roles was that of grandmother. She was an avid and beloved supporter of all her grandchildren and never failed to miss a special sporting event or performance. She will be greatly missed and always remembered for her positivity, bright smile, and encouraging spirit.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband Ned Lewis Underwood Sr.; son Ned Lewis Underwood, Jr.; and brother Roger Stultz.

She is survived by: daughters Jennifer (Rick Reed) Wolfe, Elizabeth (Ted) Cotterman, and Sara Underwood; daughter- in- law Gail Underwood; grandchildren: Brendan (Caroline) Underwood, Kyle (Amy) Underwood, Lydia (Scott) Graves; Jessica (Joseph Martinez) Wolfe, Jocelyn Wolfe, Isaak (Ashley) Underwood, Ariel (Jonathan Hyder) Swartz; Vincent Cardi, Colton (Hanna) Cardi, Cordell (Erin) Cardi; great- grandchildren: Colin Underwood; Kennedy and Luke Graves; Isla and Bennett Underwood; Ainalei Wolfe; Reagan Cardi; Amelia Cardi; and brother William (Lisa DeGarmo) Stultz.

Calling hours are Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 10:00am to 12:00pm with Funeral Service at 12:00pm at Grace Community Church of the Nazarene, 7945 Tunnel Hill Road, New Lexington, Ohio with Pastor Jeff Gilkerson officiating.

Burial will follow at the New Lexington Cemetery
