Yan Sun Celebrates 11 Years of Art and Community at Zanesville Museum

ZANESVILLE, OH – This month’s ArtCOZ Artist of the Month is celebrating a major milestone this Friday, 11 years right here in Zanesville.

Yan Sun is the visionary behind the Yan Sun Art Museum and Gallery located at 604 Main Street. Not only is he the owner of the museum, but he’s also a professor at Muskingum University and a talented artist himself, dedicating his life to art and education.

“I think the artists are my life and my life was art,” said Sun. “I’m happy to be an artist and art educator. I create many works of art and focus on the Ohio life, because I’ve been in residence here for over 30 years and I have so many feelings and experiences from my life, my students, my colleagues, and the people around this community.”

Yan Sun is proud to showcase not only his own artwork but also the work of talented artists throughout Zanesville. The museum features a diverse collection, including jewelry, paintings and photography.

“Yan Sun art museum in Zanesville seems like the window of the culture. You can see the Ohio culture and you can see the real art of the United States because we’re American and I want to represent the spirit of America. As an art educator I have been teaching, I have been creating, and I would like to share my experience. In the art museum we have so many artists from this community, we get the artists together and we show the American Spirit,” said Sun.

A special exhibition will feature over 30 artists, each invited to showcase their unique works, representing their personal stories and life experiences through their art. An opening reception will take place Friday from 5p.m. to 8 p.m. and will include live music by Dr. Laura Schumann.
