John Vernon

John I. Vernon Jr. 98 of New Lexington Ohio passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at 10:11AM on Saturday March 15th, 2025 at his residence.
John was born in 1927 to the late John I. Vernon Sr. & Francis E. Caster Vernon.
Mr. Vernon was a 1945 graduate of New Lexington High School and proudly served in the United States Army. He was a 42 year employee of Peabody Coal Company as a heavy equipment operator, and proud member of the U.M.W.A.. Additionally, he was an incredibly talented sign painter. He loved his church family and was very active in his attendance and service to Holy Trinity Lutheran church. He had served as a Local Boy Scout troop leader and was a past member of the BPOE#509. He loved watching his Ohio State Buckeyes Basketball and Football. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing golf with his many friends at the Perry Country Club.
John is survived by his 2 sons John D. (Susan) Vernon, Gary D. (Mary), 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife Marjorie A. Cleveland Vernon, brothers Edgar Rawland Vernon, Francis Vernon, Murray Eugene Vernon, and sisters Jean Bosley, Madeline Wilson and Elizabeth Deitrich
Calling hours will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, March 21, 2025 at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio.
Funeral Service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 201 West Brown Street, New Lexington, Ohio with Pastor Kristin Santiago officiating.
Burial will follow in New Lexington Cemetery, New Lexington, Ohio with a Graveside Military Service by the American Legion, John Tague Post #188, of New Lexington, Ohio.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 201 West Brown Street, New Lexington, Ohio
