Muskingum Valley Council Hosts Weekend of Scouting and Racing Fun
ZANESVILLE, OH –It’s a big weekend for the Muskingum Valley Council, packed with activities for the whole family.
Two exciting events are set to make this weekend one to remember. On Saturday, the Kids Outdoor Family Fun Day will offer adventure and hands-on experiences, and on Sunday, the Muskingum Valley Council Cub Scout 500 races back into action.
“Our Kids Outdoor Family Fun Day is for our Zane Trace District, which includes Muskingum County, Perry County, and Morgan County. We are inviting kids from kindergarten through 12th grade to come and experience scouting,” said Tony Palmer District Executive for the Muskingum Valley Council of Scouts BSA.
The Outdoor Family Fun Day will feature inflatable archery, interactive games, and plenty of opportunities for kids to explore what scouting has to offer. This free event is open to anyone interested in a day of fun and adventure. Then on Sunday, the Cub Scout 500 makes its way back to Colony Square Mall—a tradition that brings together families, alumni, and the community to cheer on young racers as they put their creativity and skills to the test.
“The Pinewood Derby starts out as a rectangular block of pine, and you get to shape it and mold it into whatever creation you want to make a car. You put wheels on it, add some weights, and then race against everybody else. You have the ability, through your creativity and ingenuity, to really make something you can be proud of. That’s why it would be better if they came out prior to Sunday to have a little more time to make their car. Or, in that open race, if they have a car they’ve had from their youth, they can run it again,” said Jared Smith, Scout Executive/CEO of the Muskingum Valley Council of Scouts BSA.
If you’d like to join in on the fun or grab a car to enter, stop by the scout office ahead of time or head to Colony Square Mall on race day to get set up and registered. Race day registration is from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., Cub Scout racing is at 2:00 p.m., and the open race, turtle race, and championship races will take place around 2:30 p.m.
