Two Car Accident on I-70 Westbound

Westbound lanes of interstate 70 were closed for nearly two hours an injury accident Wednesday.

It happened around 11:30 a.m. between Norwich and New Concord.

Traffic was directed into the left shoulder to pass by the scene. Ohio State Highway Patrol Lieutenant Matt Boyd said a swerving Honda Accord, driven by Miao Li, 26, Jersey City, NJ, hit the back of a Chevy Traverse, driven by Adam Smith, 29, Morgantown, WV, causing the Traverse to crash through the right side guardrail and into woods near the highway. After impact, the Accord struck a guardrail and spun causing the vehicle to flip into the roadway.

There were inital reports of a third vehicle involved. A passing Jeep had stopped after seeing the flipped Accord and tried to latch onto the vehicle to pull it back up on its wheels. It was unsuccessful and directed off of the scene.

Boyd said two people in the Traverse were transported with minor injuries and the driver of the Accord was transported with more serious injuries to Genesis Hospital but injuries are non-life threatening. The crash remains under investigation.
