Lewis Smith

Lewis E. Smith, 90, of Byesville, passed away Monday (March 31, 2025) at Cambridge Place.
He was born August 30, 1934 in Centerville, son of the late Howard Smith and Margaret (Kupp) Smith.
Lewis was the former owner of M & S Mining and Dow Mining. He was also the owner of King Pin Bowling Lanes and Capital Bowling Lanes.
He loved golfing and bowling. Lewis was a member of the Cambridge Elks Lodge 448, the Cambridge Eagles Aerie 386, and the Cambridge Country Club. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners.
He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was quite the prankster.
Lewis was a US Army veteran, where he had served as a combat engineer.
He attended the Christ Global Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Peg” Smith, who passed away in 2001; an infant daughter, Rhonda Lou Smith; two brothers, Donnie Smith and Melvin Smith; and two sisters, Linda Smith and Shirley Smart.
Lewis is survived by three daughters, Melodie Hill of Jensen Beach FL, Stacie Smith of Chester SC, and Angela Decker of Mims FL; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and his long-time companion of twenty years, Janet Burgett of Cambridge.
Visitation will be held Thursday (April 3, 2025) from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville. On Thursday evening, Elks services will begin at 6 p.m. and Masonic services will follow at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, on Friday (April 4, 2025) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Wib Bragg officiating.
Burial will be at Bellbrook Cemetery, Bellbrook OH, with military honors.
As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests memorial contributions in Lewis’s name be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, PO Box 947765, Atlanta GA 30394.
