Zanesville Going Back to School
It’s the time of year where school buses start to hit the road to take kids to school to begin the year.
The first day for Zanesville City Schools is still two weeks away on August 25. However, the district’s director of operations, Kevin Appleman, said he believes the students are ready to get back into the swing of things.
“All of our buildings are ready,” he said. “Custodians, maintenance did a great job over the summer. They just look great. Kids are ready to come back, I think. There have been a lot of back to school book bag things and different things, but yeah, principals are ready to go. It’s exciting.”
Appleman added there is not much that has changed from last school year. Citing that all start times will remain the same. Students in 1st through 12th grade will start on August 25, but kids in kindergarten won’t officially begin until August 28. Appleman said those students will complete state testing in the early part of the week.
As a reminder, Appleman stressed the importance of realizing students will be waiting for busses and school zones will be active once again.
“Be careful. I please ask everyone out there, the busses will be running, kids will be standing on the corner,” he said. “Please slow down the school zones, they’ll be back in operation with the flashing lights, so please slow down and be careful and watch the kids.”
Zanesville High School and middle school have orientations planned for this week and next, and all of the elementaries have open houses scheduled.

Returning New Tech Students — Laptop Pick-up: Thursday, August 20, 2015 from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Back to School Night: Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
John McIntire Elementary: Monday, August 24, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
National Road Elementary: Monday, August 24, 2015 from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. for Kindergarten and 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. for 1st – 6th grades
Zane Grey Elementary: Monday, August 24, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. for Primary and 6:30 p.m. for Secondary.
