Chromocare Launches New Cleanroom Laboratory
Chromocare launched their Cleanroom Laboratory Thursday.
It is located at the Heath, Newark and Licking County Port Authority building. Chief Medical Officer for Firefly, Kathy Siminovitch told us more about the genetic assisted prescribing test (GAP) that the company will provide.
“It wasn’t until relatively recently, kind of post the Human Genome Project, that we have the tools to have the knowledge to understand what are those specific genes that make this person respond to a medication and this one doesn’t.”
The test takes this information and will put it into a single test to provide physicians. CEO of Chromocare, David Feld said it will cost approximately one thousand dollars. Insurance will typically cover majority or all of the cost. Feld told they are excited to re-locate to the area.
“The people here are amazing. We’ve had such a great welcome from the Port Authority and from everybody that we feel really welcome here.” Said Feld, “We’re from Toronto and it’s kind of like New York and you know, it’s a big hustle bustle city so it was nice to slow down the pace a bit and develop more relationships with people and with the community.”
Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor and a number of other State Representatives were present. One hundred new jobs will be filled over the next two years at this new facility.
